Oatmeal topping:
1/2 cup flour (62g)
½ cup rolled oats (45g)
¼ cup brown sugar (50g)
2 tbsp. granulated sugar (30g)
Pinch salt
6 tbsp. melted butter (84g)
Filling:
3 lbs. apples, peeled, cored and sliced (1.5kg)
Juice of 1 lemon
¾ cup granulated sugar (150g)
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon (7g)
2 tbsp. flour (8g)
Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C).
For the topping, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar and salt in a large bowl. Drizzle in the melted butter and toss to combine well. Break up any large lumps and set aside.
Place the sliced apples in a large mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon and flour and stir until the apples are well coated. Place the prepared apples in a 9”x 9” (22cm x 22cm) square ceramic baking pan. (Metal pans are fine too when lined with parchment paper.)
Bake for 50-60 minutes uncovered, until the crust is golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream.
