Sweet Ginger Vodka Soda is a delicious cocktail that requires ginger syrup. Of course there are lots of commercial preparations out there, but homemade is way less expensive and much more delicious.
Cocktails in the time of COVID
Right now in the era of COVID and isolation, bars and restaurants are having a tough time. You can’t just meet your pals for a drink after work. I hope those days are not gone, but for now we are less inclined to gather at our favorite watering hole.
So if you are bartending for one or two these days, here are a few ways that you can tweak a Sweet Ginger Vodka Soda to your particular tastes:
- For a drier cocktail, simply double the amount of water and lime, and cut the ginger syrup by half.
- For a more gingery snap of flavor, grate a few drops of fresh ginger juice into your cocktail. You can use the fine side of a cheese grater to collect the juice, but you don’t need very much. Fresh ginger juice is a potent flavoring!
- Because the original recipe for Sweet Ginger Vodka Soda is equal parts ginger syrup, club soda and vodka, you can mix up a larger batch. Deliver a small container to your bestie’s outdoor mailbox, and have a Zoom cocktail party. Hey, you’ve definitely done weirder stuff. This could be fun!
Ginger Syrup is the Key to Excellent Cocktails
Once you have ginger syrup on hand, Sweet Ginger Vodka Soda is a refreshing sweet cocktail that you can make anytime. The piquant ginger sensation mixed with sparkling water is a great pick-me-up on a hot day.
BTW I’m including a portrait of my sweet 31 year old macaw Pepito. He has always wanted to be in a rum commercial but he settled for a blog post. He’s a good boy, although he did trash my photography set looking for more corn on the cob treats.

Melissa, try the “Frankly” vodka brand, and its ginger+apple version. OMG, totally sippable on its own and will be perfect for this recipe.

YES! I will do that, I think that sounds delicious with the ginger syrup. I am making so much syrup these days, as well as unsweetened ginger tea. It’s a little bracing, but keeps me from eating stuff I shouldn’t. Love to you!
